What Are Therapists Trained to Do and How Can a Therapist Help?
Psychotherapists, Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists are trained to listen, show empathy and to look at situations objectively. Processing your thoughts and feelings with a therapist can be very helpful. The therapeutic relationship is quite different from the relationships with your friends and family members. Sometimes you may feel angry with your therapist or misunderstood, but a well-trained therapist will allow you to process your feelings (good and bad,) in a safe, nonjudgemental environment. Therapy has worked wonders for millions of people. If your therapist is not a good match, it does not mean that therapy does not work. You may simply need a therapist that is a better match.
What is a biopsychosocial assessment and therapy intake?
A biopsychosocial assessment and therapy intake is the first step in beginning counseling at Basic Bliss. It’s a structured but conversational session where your therapist gets to know you—not just your symptoms. The goal is to understand your full story so we can create a treatment plan that actually fits your life.
This type of assessment looks at three key areas:
Biological: Your physical health, medical history, sleep patterns, genetics, or anything that might affect your emotional well-being.
Psychological: Your thoughts, emotions, coping skills, past stressors, trauma history, and current challenges.
Social: Your relationships, family background, work, support system, cultural identity, and environmental stressors.
During your intake, we’ll review your reasons for seeking therapy, discuss important background information, talk through any symptoms or patterns you’ve noticed, and explore your goals for treatment. You can expect a compassionate, judgment-free space where you set the pace and share what feels comfortable.
By the end of the assessment, your therapist will work with you to outline next steps and begin developing a personalized plan for ongoing therapy.
